I have not created a script for my portion of the podcast yet, but I thought we could discuss who is going to talk about what.
I don't mind doing the Introduction to our podcast. My main focus can be on how the students studied tool safety (this is what I did my Lesson Plan #1 on). As far as the two topics from the book that need to be included, I thought explaining what project-based learning is would be good to have as part of our intro. For my second concept from the book, I thought it would be cool to talk about virtual field trips, and then to discuss how the students went on a virtual field trip to a workshop to learn about tool safety. Let me know what you think! I will create my script and get it on here soon so we can make sure everything flows.
Those are great ideas! I'm ok with both those topics from the book as long as Brittany is. :) Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteOk! Let me know when you come up with what topics you're going to use for your section of the podcast :)
ReplyDeleteHere is my script: (it is approx 1 minute)
ReplyDeleteHello family and friends of Ms. Finnerty's, Mr. Russell's and Ms. Jacobson's 5th grade class. We are in the beginning stages of a very exciting project. Our class has a goal of building a bird habitat. This goal will be met using project-based learning, meaning that our class will be learning many skills while on the path to building a bird habitat. Everything we learn will be related back to the bird habitat project. For example, each student in our class created a video about tool safety because we will need to use some tools in order to build the habitat. This is a skill that can be applied to many other projects in life. Project-based learning enhances the student's education because every portion of the project comes together in a real-life situation.
Thanks to the power of technology, we were already able to take a virtual field trip to a workshop where students could see what it looks like to safely use tools. This is where the students got their first look at tool safety and some information for their movies that they created using Window's Movie Maker. The virtual field trip was great because we got to experience a workshop without paying for transportation or dedicating most of a day towards "going" somewhere.
That sounds great! Now, the way I read the requirements I thought we need to include 2 subjects from the book for the whole thing. Do we need to do that for each of ours??
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking for my podcast I'm going to talk about what makes a "good" birdhouse.
ReplyDeleteHere's my script - what do you think??
ReplyDeleteIn order to make an effective birdhouse, you have to consider several things before you build. For instance, what type of bird do you want to attract? Do you want to attract a bird that would prefer a nesting platform – like Robins, Song Sparrows, Brown Thrashers, and Jays that build their nests in the open? Or do you want to attract a bird that would use a birdhouse, otherwise known as “cavity nesters?” Birds such as Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Wrens, Titmice, Chickadees, and Swallows. There are some birds that typically refuse man-made houses, so good luck attracting birds such as Orioles, Cardinals, and Blackbirds.
If you’re building a birdhouse, you have to consider the size of the entrance. Certain birds like an entrance of a certain size. You can look those up when looking for plans online. Other considerations would include location, environment, drainage, and ventilation. Look up what kind of habitat your bird likes and where to locate your birdhouse online as well.
Yeah I wasn't sure if it was 2 topics from the book per person or per group... hmmm.
ReplyDeleteThe facts in your script look great! I think it's supposed to almost be like a newsletter to the parents about what the students have been doing in the classroom. So you might want to include something that the class has done, or will be doing. For example, explain to the parents what the students did in your Lesson Plan #1. Hope these suggestions help :)
HELP :(
ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble figuring out how to have the music fade in and out... I only can figure out how to make it more or less quite for the entire thing... not just sections.
Were you able to figure it out for your podcast?
Thanks!
Figured it out!! Took a while.... You use the "Envelope" tool (middle top). To use it:
ReplyDelete1. Select the Tool
2. Click on top line of clip (where the audio waves are shown - mine is blue) where you want to fade the audio in/out
3. Do this several times along a time span to get the fade. Otherwise it'll just move the volume of the entire clip from your cursor to the end of the sound clip.
Hope that was clear enough and hope it helps!
Hey Rachel. Finished my podcast - great suggestions, it turned out pretty good! I think your podcast should be first. I think mine should be second because I ended the podcast on building a bird house tomorrow (which would require tool safety). Tell me what you think!
ReplyDeleteHere's the revised script...
Hello podcasters! Today we’re going to discuss what it takes to make a great birdhouse!
In order to make an effective birdhouse, you have to consider several things before you build. For instance, what type of bird do you want to attract? Do you want to attract a bird that would prefer a nesting platform – like Robins, Song Sparrows, Brown Thrashers, and Jays that build their nests in the open? Or do you want to attract a bird that would use a birdhouse – some of you might know them as “cavity nesters.” Birds considered to be cavity nesters are Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Wrens, Titmice, Chickadees, and Swallows.
However, there are some birds that typically refuse man-made houses, so good luck attracting birds like Orioles, Cardinals, and Blackbirds.
Now, if you’re building a birdhouse, you have to consider the size of the entrance. Because, many birds like an entrance of a certain size. Other considerations would include location, environment, drainage, and ventilation. You are able to look up entrance size, what kind of habitat your bird likes, and where to locate your birdhouse online.
Don’t forget to bring your safety glass because, tomorrow we’re going to put this information to good use and to build a birdhouse!
Sounds good and thanks for your help!
