Team Website

Hello! The team website looks like it will take quite a bit of communication, so I'll check back to this post often!! I guess we need an Introduction page, a walk through of our unit that we have been working on. Furthermore, we must include pretty much everything we have done. I thought it might be useful to list what topics each of us have covered in order to figure out who would would be best suited for the different pages required.
The following is what I have studied on birding:
- tool safety (lesson plan)
- cost (lesson plan)
- then both of us worked on the PenPals assignment.

What are the topics you have covered? Also, what other pages do you think we should add so that we don't have any holes in our project. (Considering we have not covered everything.)

  1. I created a Google website for our team:
    https://sites.google.com/site/birdingunit/

  2. Would you mind making the team Gmail account?

I requested to add both of you to the team website. It would only let me request to make Brittany an editor, but it did let me add James as an owner. Brittany-- please let me know if you have any problem trying to work on the site because of this.

  3. Hey, I was checking out the website and I like what I see! I can make the Gmail account but I was reading the module and I'm still a little unclear as to what the use of that is - care to shed some light??

Also, I will be posting the revised concept map on here in a little bit to show you how it looks.

    Topics that I covered were...

    -What a bird needs
    -Clutch size data
-Virtual PenPal assignment (both of us)

As of right now, I'm not sure what else we can add in order to prevent hole in our data. I guess we can just start with what we've got and "wing it." (no pun intended)

  4. Posted the concept map.... I think maybe I did it a little wrong. I hope you can see it... I did it as a new post.

  5. Concept map looks good. Thank you. I posted it to the website.
I'm not totally sure what the team email is for, but I saw that we do need one. At the bottom of each page, the name of the person that created the page and a gmail is supposed to be there. I'm going to use the team gmail for this purpose. Other than that, I don't know what the use of it is.
The "Welcome" page is almost complete, I just have to figure out where to find our collaborative podcast. The pages "Tools" and "Cost" are almost complete. That will put me at 3 pages. Your two pages and the "Penpals" page will put you at 3 also. Do you mind doing the Penpals page? If you don't mind, I think it would be a good final page. Our Penpals assignment was kind of aimed to be a reflection and way to share information with students across the globe. This is my thinking on why it would be a good way to end the website.

  6. Also, could you please copy and paste your standards to the "Standards" page.
    Thank you!

  7. Hello! Can you please send me your podcast so that I can combine it with mine. I'm not quite sure how to do it, but I'll give it a try.

  8. podcast sent and standards posted.

How do you think I should start the penpals page?

  9. I got the podcast and the team website. Thank you!
Here are some ideas that might help you for the penpals assignment:

    - Introduce the assignment: Something like-- "An excellent way to get students involved with global awareness is through a penpal assignment. The students in our class were amazed that they could talk through video with a class from Adelaide, Australia..." yada yada and maybe something about the impact it had and what they talked about.

    - Discuss how a Google Map was created to help students see how far away the class that we communicated with was.

    - I'm not sure if we are supposed to add the Google Document, but if so, you could mention that here is the basic information and questions that we set up.

    - Discuss how the students communicated... like Skype or whatever you think would have been a good way for us to communicate.

    Hope that helps!

I have a question also, do you know how to make a subpage into a normal page? Right now the Standards and Tools are subpages of Welcome. It makes sense to have Standards as a subpage, but not tools. How should I fix this?

    ReplyDelete
  10. nvm I figured out how to change it from subpage to a normal page, just need to know how to change the order of the pages now!

  11. One last thing: I think I need your podcast in .wav form to add it to mine.

  12. I lied here's the last thing lol... I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to combine the podcast. I am going to email you my podcast. If you have time will you please try to combine them? I will keep trying.

  13. Ya I'll give it a shot. I'll look at the website too to see if I can change the order of the pages. What order were you going for?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I would like for the Tools page to go somewhere before Cost.

  15. I got the podcast put together!! Just working on attaching it now. Good luck with your pages! I'll check back to our blog a lot throughout the day in case you need any help! Can't wait to post it tonight and be all done :)

  16. -Switched side bar items
-Created team email and emailed it and password to you
-Going to do website now - When I'm finished do you want me to just post it?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ummm.... How do you add another page... :/

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok. I'm having trouble putting an image onto my page. I paste it in there and after I save it, the image doesn't show up - just the box with a "?"

How did you do yours? And how did you get your picture to link to the website you found it on???

    ReplyDelete
  19. Figured out how to put the image in...and how to embed the youtube video.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ok. I did the pages. I'm not really sure what order you think they should go in. I kinda guessed buuuut, I'm not sure. Also, if you have any ideas on how to make mine a bit better I'd love to hear them - I feel as though their a bit short.

Anyhow, let me know what you think!

  21. Ok I'll check it out right now! I'm in the process of fixing up our podcast on the Welcome page.

  22. Looks pretty good! Just a few things that are missing from the requirements.

    Suggestions:
    - Each team member was to add 3(?) websites that would be helpful, on top of the ones we evaluated. Double check on the number of extra sites we were supposed to have as I'm not sure.

    - An extra podcast or lesson plan

    - A new idea or lesson for a teacher to use

  23. Podcast kicked my tush... and I'm sure there's a much easier way to do it than I did... but hours later I GOT IT! :) I'll be on here until a little before midnight if you need any more help! Let me know when you're done with everything and I'll post it if you'd like.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm cool with you posting it (Thanks!). Umm. I guess I'll work on that extra stuff. Is this supposed to go on an extra page? Perhaps a new page called Extra Resources or Further Teaching??

    ReplyDelete
  25. You don't have to post the stuff if you don't want to... I just noticed they're in the requirements. I know it's getting down to the wire.
In the blurb about what is required it did say NOT to have a resource page or to put the new things created on one page. I guess they're supposed to be worked in with the pages.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ps the ordering looks perfect.

Here are the extra things I added to my pages:
    - 1 new podcast to Tools
    - 1 new lesson plan to Cost
    - A new idea to Cost

Don't know if that's helpful at all in understanding that part of the requirement.

  27. AAHHH!! I just made a quick powerpoint on how to use iMovie instead of Windows Movie Maker - for the mac users ;)

Put the powerpoint under 'what a bird needs'

I also added a couple more websites to 'what a bird needs'

    ReplyDelete
  28. ok how do you use the attachment thing at the bottom. it isn't attaching..

    ReplyDelete
  29. the powerpoint? attach and then browse files... that's what I did to attach files.

    ReplyDelete
  30. only other thing I can think of is that the file type isn't accepted...
did you by any chance make it as a Google Presentation? If so, go to INSERT then PRESENTATION.

but I'm sure that would be much too simple and convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I did that but it didn't work for some reason. I'm trying something different. I uploaded the ppt to googledocs and now i'm going to insert it into the text.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I need to quick edit my presentation in but you're locking me out :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok i just just just posted it when it hit 12. yikes. Stressfull.

  34. Good work! Can you unblock me so I can check it out? I'm so happy it's completed :) What a relief.
